Did you know that your skin is your largest organ and renews itself every 28 days?
Having a solid skincare routine can only help your skin for so long. You have to pay attention to what you put in your body as well to feed your skin from within.
Eating a balanced diet filled with fresh fruits, veggies, proteins, vitamins and minerals will guarantee you’re getting the maximum benefits both inside and out.

1. Water

I don’t have to tell you twice. We all know that WATER IS LIFE!
Water is the basis of all hydration when it comes to skincare. It also helps flush out the toxins from your body, making it easier for the right nutrients to be absorbed.
Aim to drink around 8 glasses of water a day. If you find it hard to drink water throughout the day, you can always try out herbal teas, fruit infused water, soups, or foods with high water content.
Examples: Green Tea, Cucumbers, Watermelons, Lettuce, Celery, Pineapples, Bell Peppers, Tomatoes
2. Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a super antioxidant and is needed to heal blemishes, promote radiant skin and boost your immune system.
Both dietary and topical application of Vitamin C will give your skin that natural glow from the inside out.
Foods high in Vitamin C: Oranges, Bell peppers, Potatoes, Broccoli, Strawberries, Sweet Potatoes, Kiwis, Guavas.
3. Omega 3 & 6

Omega 3 and Omega 6 fats are an essential part of any diet.
Our body doesn’t naturally produce them so we have to get them through our diet.
Omega 3’s promote the production of anti-inflammatory compounds which help with healing skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.
Foods high in omegas: Flaxseeds, Chia seeds, Walnuts, Brussel Sprouts, Hemp Seeds.
4. Zinc

The role of zinc is to help with the production of oil in the body.
A diet with a good balance of zinc helps with repairing skin damage and supporting healthy collagen production.
Be careful though, too much zinc in the body can cause the overproduction of oil from the sebaceous glands which then triggers acne.
Foods that include Zinc: Almonds, Spinach, Asparagus, Pumpkin Seeds, Cacao.
5. Healthy Fats

Monosaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats provide fatty acids which are essential for maintaining cell growth and function.
A diet high in healthy fats will improve elasticity and keep your skin soft and supple.
Examples include: Avocados, Eggs, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil, Soybeans, Peanut Butter.
6. Antioxidants

Antioxidants are substances popularly known to protect the skin from free radicals and UV damage.
Our body naturally produces free radicals but exposure to environmental factors like pollution, UV rays, cigarette smoke and other chemicals can cause an overload resulting in damaged skin.
Luckily, antioxidants are present in most skincare products and help reduce inflammation, repair the skin and brighten your skin tone.
Foods high in antioxidants: Dark chocolate, Blueberries, Strawberries, Artichokes, Pecans, Raspberries, Kale, Cabbage, Beetroots.
